Best of luck to John Bellew, Conor Burke, Cian O’Sullivan, and Seán Currie who were all nominated for Hurling All-Star honours. The all Stars award show in on tomorrow night.
A well-deserved recognition for four players who’ve been central to Dublin’s progress this season.
John Bellew
John has really grown into one of Dublin’s standout defenders. A tight-marking, physical back, he’s usually handed the opposition’s most dangerous forward, a clear sign of how highly Niall Ó Ceallacháin rates him.
Conor Burke
The switch from centre-back to midfield has suited Conor down to the ground. His trademark long-range points have been a key feature of Dublin’s play over the past couple of seasons, helping to keep the scoreboard ticking when games were in the balance.
Cian O’Sullivan
Cian has developed into a top-class inter-county forward, just as many expected he would if he could stay injury-free, which, thankfully, he managed this year. Finishing as top scorer from play in the inter-county season says it all. He was excellent for St Brigid’s in the SHC too.
Seán Currie
Seán is starting to deliver on the potential he’s shown since his underage days. Na Fianna’s county breakthrough seemed to ignite his form, and their All-Ireland run last year clearly boosted his confidence further. With sharp hands and a natural playmaking instinct, he’s been central to Dublin’s attacking play — finishing as the second-highest scorer from play in this year’s championships, as well as being a steady presence on frees.
Conor Burke, Cian O’Sullivan, and Seán Currie: all fully deserving of their All-Star nominations after outstanding seasons in blue. The way the all Stars work we'll likely only get one at most and probably Cian has the best chance.
